Yancy Victoria Butler was
born July 2, 1970 in Greenwich Village, New York City. Her parents are
Joe (from the band, The Lovin' Spoonful) and Leslie Butler. At 13, she
began her studies at the HB Studios in New York. During her high school
years, she studied dance and ballet at the Joffrey and Ailey Schools.
Yancy then attended Sarah Lawrence College. During her college years,
she appeared in several theatrical productions.
Her first appearance in front of the camera was in 1979 in the movie,
